Downswood Precept for 2025/26

25th February 2025

Downswood Precept for 2025/26

In response to recent enquiries from residents, the parish council can confirm that the precept for the fiscal year 2025/26 has now been agreed by Maidstone Borough Council and will be set at £45,000. This decision reflects our commitment to maintaining and improving essential services, and community projects that benefit all residents.

What is a Precept? A precept is a portion of a resident's council tax that is allocated to the parish council. It is used to fund various local services and initiatives, ensuring that our community continues to thrive and meet the needs of its residents.

Why £45,000? After careful consideration, the council has determined that a precept of £45,000 is necessary to support key initiatives. Additionally, it is necessary to keep the reserves that we are legally obliged to maintain. This ensures that the council remains financially stable and prepared for any unexpected expenses or emergencies that may arise.

Your Contributions at Work The parish council remains committed to transparency and responsible management of public funds. By setting the precept at this level, we aim to balance the needs of the community with prudent financial planning.

Get Involved We encourage all residents to participate in future discussions and decision-making processes. Your input is invaluable in shaping the future of our community. Please feel free to attend council meetings, join in with community events, or reach out directly to the Parish Clerk with any questions or suggestions.
