Downswood Update

Downswood Parish Council is pleased to report that Kent County Council contractors have been working in Deringwood Drive today, carrying out the annual cutting‑back of the Pyracantha bushes. This routine maintenance is essential at this time of year, helping to keep the footpaths clear, the play areas safe for families, and the surrounding greenery healthy and well‑managed.

In addition, KCC contractors have been watering all the newly planted trees. These young trees are an investment in our future landscape, and regular watering ensures they establish strong roots and continue to thrive, enriching our environment, supporting wildlife, and adding to the natural beauty of our parish.

The photographs below show recent areas of concern in Mallards Park. One of the trees had become so overgrown that it narrowed the pathway and made it difficult for residents to pass safely. A section of fencing along the footpath was also missing. Both issues were reported by Downswood Parish Council to Maidstone Borough Council, and we are pleased to confirm that they have now been fully resolved.

These small but important actions help ensure our parks and play areas remain welcoming, safe, and in harmony with the nature that surrounds them, a place where residents of all ages can enjoy the outdoors with confidence and pride.
