Highways Improvement Plan (HIP)

8th April 2026

What It Is and What Residents Can Expect

Our Highways Improvement Plan sets out the parish’s priorities for improving road safety, managing traffic, and addressing the concerns raised by residents. It is a practical working document that helps us make the strongest possible case to Kent County Council, who are the Highways Authority for our area.

The HIP does not guarantee that every proposal will be delivered. Kent Highways decides which schemes can proceed based on safety data, engineering assessments, available funding, and countywide priorities. Some projects may take several years to progress, and others may not be feasible at all.

What the HIP does provide is a clear, evidence‑based framework for the parish to lobby effectively, seek funding opportunities, and ensure that resident concerns are properly recorded and presented. It also helps us plan ahead, focus resources, and keep the community informed about the issues that matter most.

We will continue to work closely with Kent Highways, neighbouring parishes, and local residents to push for improvements wherever the evidence supports them. Updates will be published as schemes move through the process, and we welcome ongoing feedback from the community.

If you have any views or concerns that you think that we should know about, please get in contact via the Parish Clerk - clerk@downswoodpc.org.
