Rubbish now Cleared
11th April 2026
We are sad to say that yesterday, there were three instances of fly tipping on Downswood with one alarmingly in the Old Spot Lane Nature Reserve.
However, we are glad to say that the fly tipping was reported to Maidstone Borough Council. As a direct result and with swift action, this morning, members of the parish council together with other volunteers, met the MBC clean up team and together, cleared up the fly tip in the Nature Reserve.
Fly tipping in a nature reserve is especially bad because it damages the very things a reserve exists to protect: wildlife, habitats, water quality, and the experience of visitors. The harm is deeper and longer‑lasting than most people realise.
The following photographs are the before and of the clean up team.
