Councillor Malcolm McKay

malcolmmckay

Born in Redhill and married some fifty years ago. I have since lived in Reigate, Brighton, Haywards Heath, and Crawley. This has given me a broad understanding of how different communities can be, but one issue is constant: everybody seems to believe problems are unique to their community.

Having lived in Maidstone for some 32 years, all in the time in Downswood, and from a distance tried to keep up with the activities of the Parish. I am married with two sons, one of whom lives locally, so I have some understanding of schools and activities.

I retired as an area business manager for a multinational company in the Electrical Wholesaling Field. Currently I am a Councillor for Senacre Ward and Chair of Maidstone BC Licensing Committee.

Age UK Maidstone invited me to be a trustee some twelve years ago. I found this both interesting and on occasions, frustrating; the charitable sector does not work in the same way as business. I had to adapt. I retired some two years ago, still frustrated.

My personal interests are what once was my local football team, Crystal Palace. I was a season ticket holder for a number of years. Now I leave it to my sons and grandsons to carry the flag.
